Who We Are

The Hunterdon Preschool of the Arts is a state-of-the-art preschool located in the heart of Hunterdon County. Open to the entire community, Hunterdon Preschool of the Arts is set upon the beautiful 10-acre campus of The Telyas Chabad Jewish Center. As an affiliate of Chabad, we have more than 18 years of experience providing innovative and fun educational programs throughout the county.

Our Philosophy 

Our integrated preschool curriculum is infused with Jewish values and draws inspiration from the Reggio Emilia, Montessori, Curiosity and Play Based approaches. Judaism emphasizes the importance of early childhood education, likening each child to a delicate seed that needs to be lovingly nurtured to blossom into a big strong tree. Our philosophy allows each child to bloom at their own pace, with their unique light and energy enhancing our classroom. Our comprehensive curriculum consists of a variety of programs that are open-ended and reflective. We showcase each student’s individuality and help children discover their interests through a variety of hands-on experiences. Our classrooms are guided by the principle of “every person is an entire world” which values and nurtures each child’s uniqueness and perspective.

Our warm and caring classroom atmosphere is filled with exciting learning experiences that constantly evolve to meet children’s changing needs. The teacher acts as a guide and facilitator, ensuring that each child experiences a variety of enjoyable and challenging learning opportunities. We encourage your child’s creativity and artistic expression and help your child develop a love for learning, a love that is deep, wide, and ever-growing. Our comprehensive, holistic program is designed to promote each child’s intellectual, social, physical, and emotional growth.

Our Environment

Located in the heart of Hunterdon County, our state-of-the-art facilities were designed and built with preschool-aged children in mind. All classrooms open directly outside, allowing for seamless learning both indoors and out. Every aspect was constructed to foster children’s unique inquisitiveness. Built on 10 acres of natural outdoor space, on a combination of grassy and wooded areas, children are free to explore, examine, discover and grow using the natural outdoors as their classroom. The elements of light, transparency, and natural materials are strongly valued and incorporated into all aspects of the design. 

We are committed to keeping our class sizes small, ensuring that each child receives the connection, safety, and love they deserve. Our experienced preschool staff and teachers ensure each child feels safe, welcomed, and nurtured in our environment. 

Our Director 

Rachel Kornfeld

As a mother of six, as well as a highly regarded educator and professional in child development, Rachel has a keen awareness of what parents and children seek in a preschool environment. Rachel works as a teacher, educational director, and Speech-Language Pathologist with years of experience working in various school systems and districts. 

With over two decades of working with toddlers and children of all ages, both in and out of classroom settings, Rachel’s professional expertise combined with her perspective as a mother provide a unique insight into the world of a child.  

Rachel is the founder and director of both Camp Gan Israel and Chabad Hebrew School of Hunterdon County, launching both of these programs over 18 years ago. What began as small start-ups are currently highly respected and in-demand programs by parents of preschool and elementary-age children. 

Rachel Kornfeld has a teaching certificate from BCM Teachers Seminary, BS in Communication Disorders with a Minor in Education and MS in Speech and Language Pathology, and is certified by the Board of Education and ASHA.
